Edith Holmes Swetland

Edith Holmes Swetland, 89, a homemaker and mother, died of cancer March 2, 2000 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS.
Mrs. Swetland was born December 4, 1910 in Elkville.  She was a former Grenada, MS resident for 55 years and a resident of Jackson, MS for the past five years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Cora Holmes; two sisters, Bernice Hamrock of St. Charles, MO and Blanche Spiller Hess of Elkville and three brothers, Ardell Holmes of Elkville, Clyde Holmes of Royalton and Johnny Holmes of Chesterfield, IL.
She was the widow of William Edward Swetland.  She is survived by one son, Jerry H. Swetland of Biloxi, MS; two daughters, Judy Swetland Arnold of Jackson, MS and Jean Swetland Nevill of Carrollton, TX; four grandchildren, Ashleigh Arnold Dehmer of Jackson, MS, Frank Steele Arnold III of Ridgeland, MS, Bradley Nevill of Detroit, MI and Tracy Nevill Linck of McKinney, TX; four great-grandchildren, Steele Dehmer and Sydney Dehmer of Jackson, MS and Carter and Abigail Linck of McKinney,TX.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grenada, MS where she was a member of the Margaret Carlisle Sunday School Class, A member of the Joy Club, a member and Past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star No. 2553, past Board Member of Girl Scouts Council and the TLT club.  She helped organize the Cotillion Club in Grenada.
Visitation was from 9 until 11 a.m. on March 4 with services following in the chapel of the Garner-Harper Funeral Home in Grenada, MS.  Rev. Bobby Connerly and Rev. Tim Williams will officiate.  Interment followed in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Grenada, MS.
